New Production Grants Announced

The foundation is pleased to announce the following production grants for July 2015:

  • A grant to The Representatives, a New York City–based theater company, to help support the production of Veritas, by Representatives cofounder Stan Richardson. Veritas tells the story of a group of Harvard students who in 1920 fell victim to the university’s “secret court”—a furtive antigay witch hunt aimed at expurgating homosexuality at Harvard. The play will be staged at St. George’s Church in Gramercy Park, Manhattan, in November.
  • A grant to Profile Productions, of Long Beach, Calif., to enable the completion of Jennifer Abod’s documentary film The Passionate Pursuits of Angela Bowen. The film explores Bowen’s life and her serial careers as a dancer, lesbian-feminist activist, and professor.
  • A grant to Aubin Pictures, of New York City, to help support the production of director Catherine Gund’s documentary film Amor Puro y Duro, which examines the life of the inimitable Latina singer Chavela Vargas—“a pistol-packing, tequila-downing, woman-loving icon” for generations of Mexican and other fans of ranchera music. This is Aubin’s second grant from the foundation; in 2013, we helped support the production of director Gund’s Born to Fly (2014), about choreographer Elizabeth Streb.
