October Production Grants Announced
The foundation is extremely pleased to announce four new awards for October 2015:
- A grant to 20% Theatre Company Twin Cities, of Minneapolis, Minn., to help fund the production of The Naked I: 4.0. This company-and-community-created show features contributions from more than 50 transgender/gender-nonconforming artists and allies from the Twin Cities area. Performances are scheduled for February 2016.
- A grant to Sam Rowe Theatre Ltd, of Glasgow, Scotland, to help support a touring production of Sam Rowe’s Denton and Me, a semi-autobiographical work based on the playwright’s encounter with the journals of gay English writer and painter Denton Welch. Rowe will take the play on tour in Scotland in the spring of 2016.
- A grant to SFJAZZ (the San Francisco Jazz Organization) to help fund the production of Champion: An Opera in Jazz, by composer Terence Blanchard and librettist Michael Cristofer. Champion, which tells the story of bisexual African American prizefighter Emile Griffith, will be performed at the SFJAZZ Center in February 2016.
- A grant to Hole in the Wall Theater, of New Britain, Conn., to support a new gender-bending and gender-blurring production of Aristophanes’ antiwar comedy Lysistrata. Performances will run from November 13 through December 5.
Congratulations to all the recipients.
